Joe Biden demonstrates the meaning of unity: The president drops out so Kamala Harris can step up
Democrats shake up the 2024 election to end a historic week — and the person most frightened is Donald Trump
Joe Biden is done.
The president who brought us back from the brink after four years of Donald Trump’s atrocities, a horrible COVID pandemic and multiple subversions of democracy by the U.S. Supreme Court bowed out of his re-election bid Sunday after more than 30 Democratic officeholders, the party’s mega donors asked him to go. Biden quickly endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris as his successor.
It started with a horrible debate performance and was accentuated by a letter that actor George Clooney submitted to the New York Times two weeks ago urging Biden to step aside.
The donors and the elites have told us the voters don’t matter, Mary Trump said on her “Nerd Avengers” show Sunday. “It was a decision driven by the white, power elite,” she added.
This happened just days after The Republican Party nominated a convicted felon, former president Donald Trump, for president.
This is just a reminder that the 2006 movie “Idiocracy” directed by Mike Judge, featuring Luke Wilson, Maya Rudolph, Terry Crews and Dax Shepard was meant as satire. It wasn’t supposed to be a documentary.
Yet there was Hulk Hogan channeling President Camacho on the closing night of the MAGA convention in Milwaukee. Prior to introducing Trump, I half expected Hogan or UFC head Dana White to say, “I know shit's bad right now, with all that starving bullshit, and the dust storms, and we are running out of french fries and burrito coverings. But I got a solution.” Instead, he just ripped open his shirt to reveal a “Trump-Vance” tank top. And the WWE fans went wild. All he needed was a monster truck.
That’s MAGA politics. All show and no go. Trump’s former attorney Ty Cobb, quoted in the Independent Friday, gave the convention high marks for its theatrics but said Trump is an empty suit of blind ambition and no principles.
The repetition of that message sounds like tinnitus to some, a song of hope for others, and just nothing worth listening to for all those at the convention who bought t-shirts picturing Jesus hugging Trump…

Democrats in disarray distract from a disastrous Republican convention
Who can pay attention to the GOP clown show as Democrats cannibalize themselves?
If you’re looking for entertainment out of the ordinary during this extremely hot summer brought to you courtesy of global climate change, then look no further than the Republican tent revival in Milwaukee or the ongoing Democratic circus of cannibals surrounding President Biden.
The Republican freak show has gathered in Milwaukee this week to canonize and coronate Donald Trump, fresh off his felony conviction and a recent assassination attempt. While there you can purchase your favorite Trump T-shirt, or for just $29.99 you can purchase one with Trump and buddy Jesus smiling together. For little more than that you can buy a mug, a baseball cap, or perhaps some pajamas for your child. For those who like a live WWE event, Trump appeared with an odd-looking square bandage on his ear at the beginning of week, prompting true believers to weep, faint and praise gawd for Trump being saved by “divine intervention.”
That T-shirt just cost five dollars more.
Left unasked, unanswered and unspoken is why would gawd intervene on the behalf of Trump while failing to do so for thousands of innocent children killed by gun violence, or rape victims or Abraham Lincoln, Martin Luther King, John F. Kennedy, Bobby Kennedy or Malcolm X, to name a few? Or, paraphrasing a Holocaust survivor, if gawd exists, he owes someone an apology.
The faithful tell you that you have no right to question gawd’s plan, while apparently they have no idea many aren’t questioning gawd’s plan — just their interpretation of it. Meanwhile, if gawd is in Milwaukee this week, we have a subtle reminder; he just owes a little of his hard-earned cash to get his Trump/Jesus paraphernalia…

The conversation covers topics such as the influence of conservative Catholics and evangelical Christians in the United States, the role of religion in politics, the impact of the Supreme Court, the division in American politics, and the communication challenges of the Biden administration.
Harris jabs Trump in campaign trail debut as unexpected race takes shape
Poll shows Democrat with early — though slim — lead as GOP downplays ‘bump’
Vice President Kamala Harris on Tuesday made her campaign trail debut in Wisconsin as the presumptive Democratic nominee, going hard at Donald Trump’s criminal record as the unexpected combatants began to size each other up.
“I know Donald Trump’s type,” the former county prosecutor and California state attorney general said in Milwaukee, which last week hosted the Republican National Convention that nominated Trump. “And in this campaign, I promise you, I will proudly put my record against his any day of the week.”
Harris secured enough delegates to lock in her party’s nomination on Monday, a day after President Joe Biden dropped out of the race and urged his supporters to get behind his former running mate.
“The path to the White House goes right through Wisconsin. … And we are counting on you,” Harris told supporters in Milwaukee.
She quickly moved to parts of Trump’s past that will likely be fodder for stump speeches.
“As attorney general of California, I took on one of our country’s largest for-profit colleges that was scamming students. Donald Trump ran a for-profit college that scammed students,” Harris said…
